JDC has created a unique and effective system for ranking players and a handicap system.
The handicap system provides a fun & competitive experience for players of all skill levels.
Each week, players at every academy world-wide record their scores for one session of the JDC Challenge. It takes 15-20 minutes to complete.
The scores are recorded online by official scorekeepers at each Academy.
The player’s average score is automatically calculated week after week and a ranking is established.
Different colour medals are awarded based on the player’s ongoing average. (Similar to Karate). This also determines the player’s handicap level. More info on that below.

JDC Handicap explained.
The JDC handicap system may be used for various competitions as needed.
The Greenzone is an area around the board that allows for an alternate way to finish the game. It is ideal for players who are not likely to hit a double.
Basically, the player must score enough points to get their score to zero, (or below zero) and then finish the game with a dart in the Green Zone.
Below zero means there is no bust rule in place. If a player starts at 301 points, they must score at least 301 points before they are allowed to finish on the Green Zone.
For example, if a player has 4 remaining, and they accidentally hit the 18, it is a valid score and they acheived at least their 301 points. This puts them in a position to win the game by landing a dart in the Green Zone.
When to Apply the Handicap
The handicap is simply another tool to help increase the enjoyment for young players during competitive play and provides the thrill of competition for everyone.
For example:
- A tournament is structured so that each bracket is only players of a certain colour medal and they play the X01 and Finishing rules based on their ranking colour.
- Brackets are setup to include players of various ranking colours and they will each play according to their colours rules. e.g.:
- Yellow (starts at 401 and finish on GreenZone) vs. Green (starts at 501 and finishes on GreenZone also.)
- Yellow (starts at 401 and finish on GreenZone) vs. Red (starts at 501 and finishes on a Double).
- Any combination of mixing and matching is possible at the discretion of the event organizer; with the goal of maximizing the enjoyment for the players.
